I just wonder if there is a need to put put every little UK meeting on this international forum. I was looking at the events for this month and every single meeting is on there. Is this necessary ? We are not going to get people fly in from other countries just for some tiny little meeting that will last 6 hours at the most. Of course, we may be interested in the UK, but in all honesty, are people interested 6000 miles away ? It may be of interest to put some large events on the forum such as the AGM . Members of the Carnivorous Plant Society automatically know about meeting and these meetings are for members. Do we need to tell everyone all around the world ?

This is an international organization, and if someone wants to fly 6,000 miles to go to a meeting they are welcome to. These meetings are not secret and there is no reason not to let people know about them. Open days are not only open to members of Society X, but rather anyone and everyone the hosts invites (in the case of an open day, everyone) and only excludes those that the host disallows.
Did you yourself not make a thread about Derek Clavel-Bate's Open Day in Cornwall?

I am the person that maintains the calendar events. If someone wants to publicly announce a meeting, field trip, gathering, open day, picnic, or party related to carnivorous plants, I am happy to add it to the calendar -- whether it is in the UK, US, Iraq, or where ever. Just possibly someone might be in the area and desire to contact the organizer and attend. It just happens that the UK participants have availed themselves of this notification. Once the event is over, it disappears from the calendar in short order.

Why should it be that any such meeting or Open Day cannot be announced here where there are members who do not frequent the other forum linked to above. I can't inderstand the problem. It's helpful to some members of the forum and can easily be ignored if required.

These meeting are posted on our website (thecps.org.uk), they are put in our newsletter, and they are often on the CPUK forum. How many more postings do we want ? I put the details about Derek's meeting because I am banned from the CPUK forum and not allowed to post there. Actually, banned forever. Can you believe that ? What did I do, axe-murder a VFT or something. Thanks Matti, commonsense prevails sometimes.

You are working under the misapprehension that this is a parochially US site. Once again, The 'I' in ICPS stands for 'International' and the audience is international. By your "commonsense" logic, your own post concerning Derek's meeting should be deleted and we should not have an events calendar at all, as no one outside of a 25 mile radius of any meeting anywhere could possibly be interested. As Bob has already noted, we will gladly post details of any event, large or small, wherever they may be and I somehow doubt that the organisers would object to the extra publicity. If you object to CPS events being posted here, I suggest that you direct your concerns to Vic Brown, the CPS meetings organiser. ...I am banned from the CPUK forum and not allowed to post there. Actually, banned forever. Can you believe that ? What did I do, axe-murder a VFT or something. Stop stirring David. It won't get you any further here than it has elsewhere.

I welcome the fact that Bob has posted the dates of UK meetings on the ICPS Forum. They are, of course, all posted on our own web site: www.thecps.org.uk. However, any visiting CP enthusiast from outside the UK is most welcome at our meetings and may find the information useful. Also, any interested UK-based person could find this site and not the CPS one and this may encourage them to attend a meeting and/or join the Society. I can't see any negatives to it. NOT all of the UK's meetings are posted on CPUK - this only happens if the host wants to post their details. It is CPS policy not to post full details of all meetings as not everyone wants their address and contact details published and I respect their wishes. The CPS site does not provide full details of meetings, only the date , time and general location and any non-members wishing to attend a meeting that does not have full details published should contact myself : meetings@thecps.org.uk. CPS members receive full details of all meetings in their quarterly newsletter, The CPS News. Vic Brown CPS Meetings Organizer

I think its great to post as many meetings up as possible. It is not like the calender is cluttered or anything. I would rather have to scan threw a lot of events that I can't get to than miss one I could have just because it's published elsewhere.
