Hi all was just wondering on a related subject if anyone has any reliable method of getting rid of liverwort. I know you can use vinegar to kill it in other plants and was wondering if anyone knew a safe dose rate in CP's.

Learn to love it, pull it out or grow Sphagnum on the media surface.

It seems like such a shame to get rid of it. Where I live, the sun dries out the surface of the medium and I can only get sparse growth of moss on the north-facing parts of my bog gardens. I would gladly take your liverworts over my bare-medium setups.

I like liverwort, I think it's attractive myself.

I suppose liverwort's not too bad. does tend to smother my seedlings a bit though. Could well be partly due to top watering. I think the spopres are in my water source. If you want liverwort lower light and top watering certainly seem to help.
Removal seems to only keep it down for a little while it just seems to grow back fast!! Have noticed that pots with live moss seem to have less liverwort growth but dead moss still seems to grow liverwort especialy fine ground moss.

May I please see a photo of your tool you refer to as a "Bonsai pick"?

A belated response, but here you go... A simple but very useful tool. Ideal for reaching where fingers won't.

Here's something I do when I want to get rid of weeds in my bonsai pots;
Apply the herbicide directly to the leaf of the weeds with an artists paint brush. There is no risk of over spray if you are worried about harming your cp.
This way you won't have the hassle of pulling out each individual weed, and you won't disturb the roots of your cp.
Dave.
