13th ICPS Conference May 22−24, 2020 Himeji, Japan
The ICPS Conference 2020 will be held in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, 2020. The city is renowned for Himeji Castle, a world heritage site that proudly represents the beauty of Japanese castles. Also, there is the Hyogo Prefectural Flower Center in the vicinity (about a 45-minute drive), which has a world-class carnivorous plant collection. Himeji is accessible from Kansai International Airport or from Tokyo by “Shinkansen” bullet train.
The 3-day conference will be held at a conference facility known as “Biz Space,” located a 7-minute walk from Himeji Station and within walking distance of several major hotels. The lectures will cover a wide range of topics such as scientific/academic research, horticulture, conservation, etc.
We are planning to bring in English-Japanese interpreters so that more Japanese members can participate in the conference.
Plant displays and sales booths, including a Japanese top-class CP nursery, will be available in the same building during the conference.
The conference banquet is to be held on May 23 or 24 at a near-by restaurant, where you can enjoy a good mix of Japanese and Western cuisines together with an impressive nighttime view of Himeji Castle.
On May 25, we are planning a special day trip to the Hyogo Prefectural Flower Center. We will be guided through the amazing collections of Nepenthes, Sarracenia, and other carnivorous plants in the spectacular carnivorous plant greenhouse as well as the backyard. You will be meeting the giant N. clipeata and N. pervillei that were introduced in the 2018 ICPS conference.
On May 26, we will enjoy an excursion to see the local habitats of Drosera rotundifolia, D. tokaiensis, and D. lunata, and maybe a few Utricularia, and then a trip to Tokyo for an overnight stay. On the following day (May 27), we will visit the habitat of Pinguicula ramosa, the Japanese endemic butterwort, on Mt. Nyoho, Nikko City. Note that it might be too early to see the flowers. Details including dates of the field trips will be finalized shortly.
The 2020 ICPS Conference will be hosted by the three Japanese CP societies: The Japanese Carnivorous Plant Society (JCPS), The Carnivorous Plant Exploration Society (CPES), and The Tokai Carnivorous Plant Society (TCPS). These 3 societies mainly cover the Kanto, Kansai, and Tokai regions, respectively, and have been collaborating with each other and contributing to the prevalence and awareness of carnivorous plants in Japan.
More information on the conference will be posted when it becomes available.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Himeji in May 2020!

Can the ICPS enhance its ability to investigate whether a co-host of an international conference is suitable for it? Especially when there are language barriers, cultural barriers and even other larger barriers for understanding their different ways of thinking in the partner country. If "international" means only Western countries (or Ideological countries), you do not need to read this post. The language barrier is very large. In my age most English teachers couldn't talk to native speakers. Some researchers are fluent in languages. But they might be a bit naive. And they might be fooled. no offensive.
Here are some words from a western researcher. His origin is in England, but he grew up another country because his father was invited to another British Commonwealth country as a professor of economics. He had been investigating Russia and China for that country. Somehow, he came to like Japan, which was just a relay point. He is much older than me. He lives most of his life in Japan. "When I land at international airports in Russia, China and Korea, I feel as if I have returned to my intelligent hometown. These countries where there are cultural differences but people who think and act like me. When I get off at Haneda Airport, I feel as if I have returned to my emotional hometown. etc,etc..." According to his analysis, Japan is a country that was not ideologically changed by accident, Japan is a country that did not advance to the stage of having ideology. He did not say it is good or bad.
I have never been out of my country and have never even obtained a passport. I am not such a person who undertakes the co-host of an international conference. Actually, I only helped with the display the day before at the last international conference in Japan. I was not in the conference hall during the meeting. And as a part of the post-excursions I accepted the participants to my greenhouse. I did not play an active role. I do not have my own cp society. I have never sold plants on my website.
I have propagated and bred some Australian plant species. The materials were given to me as gifts, but it is legal even if I bought them. The collections from the wild were done under the license the government gave to my friend. Other than them (not materials from my Aussie friend), I don't know if the origins of the plants (or seeds) I got were legally harvested. I have never tried to look it up. Honestly I didn't care about it. I am not a well-behaved person in every respect. I am not an ethical person at all for all sides.
Many people remain (keep) silent. 1: Some of them do not know well about this issue. 2: Some others don't care about it. 3: Some others witnessed these events and did not like to get themselves involved, didn't want to get be annoyed or be scared due to clever and serious personal attacks 4: Some others are easy to swallow slick propaganda. 5: Some others are victims and do not want to be annoyed again. 6: Some others are victims and do not want to be scared again. Etc.
My cp life is quite long, and the time left for me is not necessarily so long, perhaps a couple of decades (hopefully). If a younger man breaks silence and speaks up on this issue, he takes a risk that his long cp life will be bothered or annoyed with insidious very serious (and personal) attacks. When thinking comprehensively, it is the better age at which I should take that risk. Personally, the serious problem would be the part 1. It looks like the Japanese cp community dominated by greed and evil. The ICPS might not care about the part 1. Or, they can say after the conference. "We didn't know that!" However can the ICPS make the same claim for the part 2? Conservationists will also participate in the international conference. They may have participated at public expense. When something is disclosed, they may be required to reimburse public funds from their countries. Do they have the right to receive the co-host's information in advance from the ICPS? Suppose the venue is a public high-level botanical garden that preserves an endangered species of Nepenthes. If the mass media makes a fuss the government will have to discipline botanical garden official, depending on public opinion. If the disciplinary measure is a reduction in salary or severance pay, it would still be light. Lifetime employment is still common in Japan, especially for civil servants. Who can be responsible for him and his family?
Here is my confess, Start
Part 1 In the past, I used to slander many people online. Using an anonymous user name, I attacked real people. These attacks were personal and motivated by frustration.
For example: Journals from the Z cp society, being regarded as academic journals, are difficult to publish in, and my articles were often denied. While Z cp society journals often include cultivation articles and expedition notes, my articles were often rejected. The president of the Z cp society seemed to have determined that they were overly long, vulgar and often contained uncertain information. He also knew that they would be published in my own cp society's journals and websites Hearing of a new cp habitat discovered in C-prefecture, I was able to get the location from the president of the Z cp society. I sent a habitat exploration article to Z cp society, which was refused. The president of the Z cp society believed that if an article were to be published, it should be written by the discoverer, Dr. O.
Each time my articles were refused, I attacked the president and his assistant personally, slandering them on the bulletin board, while hiding inconvenient information about myself. Of course, they were written with their real names, and myself was anonymous (username). There were several other people who were also targeted by me.
I had proposed the rules for using the trading corner to the Z cp society. Such as: Imported plants must be cultivated by the importer for at least 6 months. etc... I wrote that I made this rule for the benefit of those receiving the plant. The board members of Z cp society considered that this rule effectively locked out anyone other than me. After this proposal was rejected, I wrote, "It is not my responsibility if the plant you received is moldy or rotten," when selling imported plants on my website. I did not notice that it revealed that my proposal was full of sophism. Japanese people are easy to handle. It is easy to silence them. Just making let them feel fear and understand the annoyance of being slandered will make them cooperative.
I was punished by the Z cp society, and it was embarrassing. I had pretended to be good friends with the president of Z cp society on my website. I had made scapegoats of other board members, slandering those who were not targets before. The president said to the board members that he had been caught.
Part2 I have (had?) conducted business as following. There is no difference between "have" and "had" for taking an important part of events involving the ICPS. I went to Southeast Asia and cut down Nepenthes at its habitats to make cuttings. I was sending them to my customers from the local post office in Southeast Asia. Due to the high temperatures in Southeast Asia, those cuttings were damaged when arriving at my customers. I decided to bring those cuttings to Japan myself. So I was caught at N International Airport. I was not arrested, but the plants were confiscated for two violations of the law. Such as Phytosanitary Law and Washington Convention. The plants were sent to a botanical garden in T Scientific City where Bob-sensei is familiar with. There are Conservationists in the scientific city. My business was found to them with the proof of plants, not gossip or hearsay. Southeast Asian countries should refuse my entry. Or the authorities should hear from me. And they should watch me keep away from Nepenthes habitats.
Part 3 I will fight back with full of bull*****and tons of excuse, and spreading slick propaganda. And then I will shoot my foot.
Part4 I may be able to attend the meeting. However I should not be involved in the international conference as an operator (moderator or administrator). Even except for the issue of COVIT-19, the co-host will need some time to restructure the organization slightly.
If the international conference is held in this present system, the ICPS has a negative impact on some conservationists, who know my activity and I think my activities got an indulgence from the ICPS.
-- end
To the moderators, It looks like there are two “I” in this post. You may be confused, but it is the result of all the hard work I can do. This post will risk my cp life that should be fun. I don't care if I would be banned from this forum. However If you edit or delete something, I will complain on other English cp forums about what you have edited, what you have deleted and what you have tried to hide.

EDIT I have never mentioned KOJI KONDO-san in the above post. I'm sorry if I have made you misunderstand. If I find that the organization has been slightly modified, I will delete the above post.
