I have realized I never did start a thread on these guys yet, so here goes: All my adult flytraps live outside with my Sarracenia in CO here, and get to experience direct sunlight all summer, with humidity rarely exceeding maybe 20%, and temperatures can soar to over 100 F. Dionaea 'Dentate Traps' D. typical Clone C. This was created by crossing clones A and B below, and it produces some very large traps D. typical clone B. Traps are smaller on this plant, and tend to stay far greener even in blazing sun D. typical clone A, the most vigorous of my original clones. I also have some seedling size 'Akai Ryu' that I have yet to raise to a proper size to move outside.

Clone C is a beauty - those big traps look awesome to me. Nice!

The only plant that is looking decent in the pool at the moment. All the others have been struggling a bit, and after the rot went away every leaf base has sprouted a new growth point, so they look ridiculous... D, muscipula "typical" Clone A by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr

Great plants, thanks for posting. Especially love the double trap! Wondering about the white sand in your new arrivals .. any particular reason? ... extra sunlight given white reflects light?.. cooler soil?.. aesthetics?.. or just because you felt like it??? (which is as good a reason as any)

Sand because it's somewhat cheaper than perlite, acidic, heavier so it doesn't float out of flooded pots, retards weed growth, and can provide better aeration as well as you find sand in the natural habitat and not large aggregates like perlite anyway.

Screw the stinking weather and weak plants; lost both my 'Bohemian Garnet' and 'Scarlet Bristle' to rot over winter, and rather late in the season at that.... Only red guys are my two 'Akai Ryu', and they're still small. The smaller of the two though sent out a double trap recently... Dionaea 'Akai Ryu' by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
