Hello everyone. I'm Joshua Brown, first post. I have seen all over the internet that watering cp with aquarium water will kill them. I transplanted some moss from one of my plants to some driftwood at the top of the aquarium a few weeks ago. Recently I have had this guy sprout up. I do not water it at all, the water it gets is absorbed through the wood and off of the filter. Not sure how well it would work with other cp but capensis seems to be enjoying itself. I plan to try it out with a few sprouts after all my other cp flower and start going for spring. [img/]

Welcome Joshua! Drosera capensis is notably hardy and can take more abuse than many other species can, so it doesn't surprise me that it would sprout on your driftwood. However you may want to consider transplanting it because it really requires more room for its roots to thrive.
I have watered my Utricularia with aquarium water before and they survived. It might be beneficial since there are probably microorganisms in the water that they can feed on, although I would try it in small amounts first to see if there are any adverse effects. It is more environmentally friendly to re-use aquarium water to water CPs when doing a water change rather than just dumping the water away, in my opinion.
I don't know, I would guess that more sensitive CPs probably wouldn't like it. Capensis is so prolific and hardy it can actually become a weed, so I wouldn't assume that it is safe for all CPs just because capensis didn't mind it.

Agreed, I water all my plants with my aquarium water so I have always been a bit curious with the cp. They are so sensitive that I only started the experiment by accident. Mostly I'm trying to find out if it has been tried in depth by anyone and what their results were. I will probably see how long it survives to determine if the build up of nutrients becomes too much for it. Once I have more sprouts I will start trails with the other basic cp. Either way I love my plants and fishies so the more they can be merged the happier I will be.
Well, I have heard nepenthes can tolerate more minerals in their water than many other CPs, so much so that some lucky people can confidently use water from their tap, so long as they let it sit out for a little bit do that the chlorine can come out of the water. I would imagine they might be ok with that kind of water.
