Does anyone have knowledge of the Minden Bog in southeast Michigan? I would like to hike this area this spring and wondered if anyone was familiar with it. Does it hold any of the native carnivorous plants and if so which ones? Thanks for any help. Ray

I think it might have sarracenia purpurea, but I don't think it has many. Michigan has sarracenia purpurea, a small number of drosera, and a few ultricularia. So you would have to really know where to look. Plus, this winter has been long, so there just might not be much to see.

Thanks sykosarah for the reply. I understand there is 8 species of carnivorous plants native to Michigan. It will be interesting to see how many I can locate! Until quite recently I wasnt even aware that we had any that would be native and present in Michigan. Looking to find someone in the state that is more knowledgeable about were I might look as we plan our summer vacation time.

Well, minden bog is a state game area, so hunters might know where odd plants would grow. Still, i have tried to look up which bogs have CPs, and minden bog doesn't pop up really while other bogs do.

Yeah I'm finding it difficult to find much info at all about which bogs in the state hold carnivorous plants. That's why I posted, hopefully someone with first hand knowledge will help me out!

I have looked at these links in the past. In fact several of the species apparently are found in my county and I have a pretty good idea where. Time to do some exploring this spring.

Be sure that if you find some to post some pictures, I would love to see the wild CPs of Michigan. I can't go myself because I can't drive and am busy with college stuff.

No replies from anyone with previous knowledge of the Minden Bog? How about anyone interested in hiking this area this spring and see what we can find.
