At the bottom of the page is a link to see the last 40 posts made. This is nice because in coming to the forum, one can check this list and see what has been updated. While this feature is very much appreciated, many forums are now using "new posts" features which are tied to the individual user. That is "new posts since you last logged on" and "posts which have not updated since you last logged on but have posts you have not checked yet"
These are very nice since making your forum rounds boils down to walking down a "to do" list.
A few forums I have seen even have a sidebar which displays the last 5 or so postings made to the forum so that if something catches your eye you can click on it.
These are all nice features- I was hoping you would consider implementing some of them.

I am not clear about some of the modifications that you are asking about.
The feature that you request: ""... new posts" feature which are tied to the individual user" can be found by clicking on the link to the user of interest and look under Recent Posts the category 'View most recent posts". The default is 10, but can be any desired number. (I am not certain if this feature is limited to Admin or everyone.)
The feature: "View the 40 most recent posts of this forum" -- I can increase or decrease the number of posts; the default is 40.

Thank you for the reply. Those are not quite what I am suggesting. I will send some examples when I have a moment to find them. (Might be tomorrow)

Functions available are constrained by the abilities of the proboards software.
Forum software comes in numerous flavours each with differing feature sets and what may be possible with alternative software may not always be possible here.

Thanks, I have not had a chance to sit down and find a good example yet but I will when able.
Do you know if proboards has some kind of API? If so such a tool could perhaps be engineered.

If you have the time and interest, search the proboards support forum. Perhaps there is an answer there. support.proboards.com/

If you have the time and interest, search the proboards support forum. Perhaps there is an answer there. support.proboards.com/I started looking there earlier. I should have a moment tomorrow evening... God, I can't wait for all of this busyness to calm down... Focus on the fun stuff! Ever feel like you are being torn in 100 different directions and you have to be in 100 places at once? Sheesh! (And I am not even in a Ph. D. program!)

Just an FYI, I am still digging around on this little by little. I had thought I found something a while back and thought I had bookmarked it but alas... must have been a dream...

My curiosity got the best of me so I looked around some more. One thread I saw on the support site suggested that it cannot be done. Not sure if the person posting it was just being uncreative.

Make a features/enhancement request over at the Proboards forum and leave it at that. As Aidan points out there is very little the administrators here can do in the way of features customization.
