I'm flying into Portland and leaving from San Francisco. I'm planning on stopping at California Carnivores. Does anyone have any suggestions on any other cp or orchid green houses on the coast? Also I wanted to see some Darlingtonia sites while I was visiting does anyone have any advice? Thank you for your time! -Lilly

Thank you for your time! -Lilly If you plan to be in the bay area for a little bit as part of the trip, UC Davis Botanical Conservatory has a nice collection. Contact them ahead of time though. (About 2 hours from Sebastopol) I have heard the UC Berkeley collection is really good but I am not sure how much of it is open to the public. I was in Berkeley about a month ago, I really wish I had checked it out but was on a really tight schedule (especially since I drove right by their botanical conservatory! Errrr!!!). Now, I am not from Oregon so I do not know the area, but Sarracenia Northwest popped into my head as a place I plan to visit when I get around to making my similar Darlingtonia pilgrimage up there. Their website, if you are not familiar with them, is www.cobraplant.com. They are located in Eagle Creek which googlemaps tells me is about 27 minutes or so from Portland. I would definitely consider that. I am not sure if the University of Oregon has a carnivorous collection, but if I was going to be in the area I would call them and find out. Those are all of the places that pop into my head.

FYI, Sarracenia Northwest only opens the nursery to the public during special open house events, so it's unlikely you could visit them unless it happens to be during one of these open house days. I believe the first one is in early July.

Currently we have four Open House events planned for this summer. The first is a workshop on gardening with Sarracenia on June 9th, our big Summer Open House on July 14th and 15th, and another general Open House on September 8th and 9th. We also have a workshop on Sunday, August 12 on how to make indoor fountains with tropical carnivorous plants. Information will be coming soon on the website, and how to sign-up.
