Hi guys, If you remember the growth tip of my ceph blackened. yada yada,,,the plant basically made new offshoots and the parent one died. these are pitchers off the offshoots. Now this pic is from the 16th of sept. Notice the left pitcher and right pitchers FRONT RIDGE groove. Especially the black area on the pitcher on the right in that place. Okay! Now see this..this pic is from today. Now....so far...I have fed each pitcher a small betta pellet like a week ago. There is new growth as u can see a bud coming up Now, I am concerned about that black area. It seems to be growing as the pitcher is getting more colourful. Is this something of concern? thanks, varun

I can't be absolutely certain, but I think your plant may have a powdery mildew infection. Patches of tissue turning purple is the first sign.

hmm....thats the first time I am reading something about that. I thought purple is a sign of tan like how new VFT leaves have pink or green lobes and later darken up.

Notice that you are also getting similar discoloration on the non-pitcher leaves. Your sphagnum looks a bit soggy. I would be concerned -- particularly with your experience of the parent plant dying. Now those offshoots seem to be affected, even though new growth still looks OK.

Well, powdery mildew is not uncommon in Cephalotus and it would explain the problems that you have experienced with the plant. Plants shedding all their leaves and later regrowing is a typical reaction.
The "tan" does not look right to me for simple colouration in response to light. In the second photo (and also in the first), the purple spot on the leaf at top left is clearly depressed.

BTW...I am getting trichoderma soon. But, if the infection is already started then trich probably might not do much. One thing is for sure...I first noticed a black spot on the pitcher on the right's lid. IT was kinda like an INDENTATION on the top tissue. Like a burn that killed tissue in a spot..a very small DOT.

Ok I am worried does this mean that my plant is in trouble. Don't want to steal your post vraev but this scared me. I let it get heaps more light so I assumed that's why its red and why the new growth is smaller. should I cut off the mouldy looking one and is my plant ok.

You all scared me and the mould worries me . These days I get very paranoid about my plants before I couldn't care less. I think I'm getting too attached.

I don't think the deeper pigmentation or the yellow streak is a mould. It maybe is just an old pitcher. Always look at new growth ... and that looks awsome. Simply breathtaking. Your plant truly looks like its thriving.

hi guys do the cephs become more colorful in brighter light due to the production of chromaphyll or is that just the species? sticky
