Hi guys, THis is how my ceph looks: I moved it to like 5 or 6 inches from the light source. However, I noticed that since the past month and a half even though these pitchers that FORMED earlier opened, there was no growth at growth point. Today, I used a little magnifyig glass to see what is wrong and I saw that the growth tip...the little nub at the center has a BLACK tip. The pitchers are both open now and look really nice...but no growth. DOes this mean the heat fried the new growth? I just moved the pot 10 inches lower. How long do u think it might take to recover adn grow again. :S thanks, varun

Hard to tell without a picture. Could be tannins that have been whicked up through the trichomes and are just discoloring it, could be fried/rotting or it could just be very dark from good light and appear to be dead.
Dunno your conditions. Every time you move it up or down you are making a change, and that's stress, and that'll slow it down (It's not the fastest plant in the world to start with...)
I believe it took my 'Hummer's Giant' a good 3 weeks to start growing again after I got it.

Varun, Patience w/ Cephs is a requirement. Sometimes they grow fairly quickly and other times their growth can virtually stop. Monitor the plant and it's growth point but if the rest of the plant looks healthy, it will resume it's growth when it's in the mood.
If you're looking for something to do, throw an ant or 2 in the open pitcher .... ;D ;D

yeah....thats the concern. The plant looks fine in general as u can see. These 2 big pitchers are the newest pitchers...and they are nice and open even though I grow it in low 40-50% humidity. They are acclaimatised to it. The only issue being that growth has TOTALLY stopped. THe growth tip has a black burnt like tip to it. THats what concerns me....I don't want such a magnificent plant to burn up. But, I guess u guys are right...I should just stop fooling aorund with it.

I don't think that there is a problem. I grow my Cephs in full sun en their growth tips are also black, so are the pitchers when they are just a knob. When the pitcher grows it becomes less black and more purple. So as long as the mature pitchers are healthy your plant should be fine.

Normally at this time (Northern Hemisphere) Cephs are flowering. After this has finished the main flower shoot dies and reshoots from below. The remaining pitchers of your plant look very healthy. I would reduce the light slightly and cool the plant, this will induce rhizobial shoots to form from below. The black shoot could be from fungus gnats or similar. I wouldn't worry until the other pitchers start to die. Cheers

actually I noticed that under the pitcher on the right...near the center of the pot....there is now 2 small leaves shooting up with hair on them. I am guessing that means....this is the new growth point. Damn! that means t begins all the way again from immature pitchers for now. but well. atleast its alive

It has the roots of a mature plant? Might be faster to mature.

Very nice color Varun. My one plant is under metal halide and I can't get that nice red color (granted it's just a 250). I think I'm going to lower the light a few inches and maybe even raise the pot. That should make my Heliamphora happier, too.

well....but whats the point. The pitchers are open since a month now....but no more growth...the growth point is fried. I learnt my lesson that colour is not always everything with cephs.

Vraev, Is there any special technique to building up a mound for your ceph planting? I like the effect it gives. The pitchers have some place to go unlike the way I did planting it level. Bogiron

actually i got the plant already potted...but I potted my nepenthes like this as well. All u have to do is MAKE A mound and pot the plant and raise the moss carefully around the plant. If the moss on top is live...it actually regenerates itself and makes that.
