Dear CP friends, preparations for this project started at the Swiss CP meeting in Basel. Thanks to Aydin Dilber from EZTV we are now pleased to inform, that our documentation DROSERA: SNAP-TENTACLES AND RUNWAY LIGHTS is on-line since yesterday. Totally legal, in full length and DVD quality, it can be downloaded gratis. We donated the film for free and do not earn any money. Only 24 hours after start we recorded 1640 downloads completed and about 1200 still running. Please have a look and enjoy. Siggi and Irmgard PS: Also our movie BEAUTIFUL AND HUNGRY PART 2 was in full length on-line for free, about two years during the testing of "video on demand" on the German Internet. Apparently the file size is 700 MB. My broadband connection is 9 MB/sec, but the estimated download time for me from eztvefnet.org was 1 day 17 hours at 2 KB/s! The mirror site was slightly better, estimating a download time of 11 hours at 11 KB/s. Too slow for me. Am I doing something wrong, Siggi?

Hello I just wanted to pitch in here as I worked with Siggi on this project. It is correct that the file size is 700 MB. This is a Bit Torrent site which is an extremely efficient peer to peer distribution site. Files are not physically on the site but are carried by many people connected to a tracker and both downloading and uploading at the same time. This way contrary to FTP system it is extremely flexible and scalable. Your download time is dependent from many factors and it could take minutes with very fast connections to a couple of days with slower ones. In order to download the files you need a torrent client. The one I advice (suppose your run Windows) is uTorrent: utorrent.com/install and use the wizard for the configuration and then you click on the torrent link in your browser and the uTorrent starts to get it for you. We do not keep stats on users but is common courtesy to give back at least as much as you get to reach a download/upload ration of 1.0 if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.

Marcel, thanks for your info! Your support is welcome. Meanwhile we receive the first feedback, i.e. at the (GFP-forum). Quality seems to be ok, but you need indeed a fast DSL connection (we use 4000 kbit/sec. now). If you are using an older technique, maybe a colleague has a fast web connection to do the download for you. Actually meanwhile I know it works, but indeed this quality needs about 700MB. Obviously the stat-counter at EZTV needs to be checked, as I can only hard believe what came in after 1.5 days: Aydin is checking it, we keep you informed about the real counts.

The real count is over 2500. There was an unfortunate problem with the tracker that reports the stats to the site and it did reset to zero at some point around 2400 The reset did affect other torrents too. No idea at the moment if this can be fixed or not but I saw it as did many others.

Siegfried and Irmgard: Thank you for making this wonderful video available for download. I found this video to be as entertaining as it is informative. I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation about the "runway lights" and was not disappointed at with the observations on these structures. I sometimes catch myself singing "Snap-tentacles and runway lights" while driving With your permission I'd like to a copy or two on disc (either on CD or transcoded back to DVD format) into the library of the Los Angeles Carnivorous Plant Society and perhaps a viewing at one of our meetings. -Warren

Hello Warren,
you are welcome, thank you for your kind comment. Sorry for my delayed reply, but we visited the European CP conference (EEE) in Leiden (NL).
Yes, you have our permission to burn it to CD/DVD for your library and you are allowed to show it at any CP event.
When we started the experiment with EZTV it was clear that many copies will be made from the downloads. Therefore we stated from the beginning that we tolerate it for the snap-tentacles footage. So it is actually legal to download and share it for free. However, it would be illegal to sell copies for money!

We promised to keep you informed about our free download-experiment, which is still going on at Mininova www.mininova.org/tor/830185. Aydin Dilber confirmed for sure, that the film has meanwhile been downloaded (EZTV, MININOVA, etc.) minimum more than 23,000 times with a ranking of 5.3 (from 10). That is an indeed good result for such a specialized field documentary competing with topic TV-broadcasts, and - to our delight - it is even better than the ranking of some well known soap operas and TV-shows.

Oh my goodness gracious!
If you have not downloaded a bit torrent so you can view some of these videos, you are most assuredly cheating yourself!
With the help of Not a Number, I downloaded a bit torrent and some other application and was able to download and watch "Snap Tentacles and Runway Lights".
Impressive would be an understatement. I'll be downloading more of their free videos, that's for sure.
Please, treat yourself to one download. You won't be disappointed.
A big thank you to each and every one of the people who made "Snap Tentacles and Runway Lights" available for free download.
