Alright,
I decided to take a risk and buy a VFT from overseas. Had it shipped here. It was shipped in a small cigarette container- the rootball in a plastic bag of moist LFS. Most of the leaves were dead- all that was left was about a half and inch to an inch of plant material near the base, the rest of the leaves looked dead and rooting (looked like what I identify as heat stress in other plants).
I planted it in 1 part peat, 3/5 part perlite, 2/5 parts sand and put it in a tray of water.
I put the plant on a 16 hour light cycle for the first night or 2, and then a 24 hour cycle thereafter. The 16 hour was under T5 bulbs and 24 hour was under cool white T12 (my propagation station). The plant progressively got worse. I looked around for obvious signs of fungus but did not see any. At the recommendation of a friend of mine (his BS is in horticulture) I moved the plant back to the 16 hour T5 setup because of the higher light output (4 bulbs vs. 2). We have been experiencing triple digits this week as far as temperature goes so I did not want to put it outside for fear of getting it too hot without proper acclimation.
At this time there are no visible leaves left. I have kept the plant under the 16 hour growlights hoping that some new growth pops up but nothing yet. It has been about 2 days. I have let the moisture in the peat reduce to at lowest amount that I feel comfortable with (IE it feels moist to the touch, but is at about the threshold where it needs to be. Like the consistency of peat which has been wet and then rung out lightly)
Anyone have any ideas? Should I give up? When should I throw it in the trash and move onto the next plant?
Ideas?
I honestly don't know whether to be mad about this or what! This is very annoying! Last time I order a bare root plant from overseas!! Especially a pricey one like this!
The picture was what it looked like after I planted it and trimmed away the dead material. The pot is a standard sized VFT pot, for size reference (3 inch pot?).
