It is acceptable to mention where you bought your plants, and what kind of service and quality you received. It's outright sales, trades and advertising that are discouraged on the forum.

Peter, you are right, perfect synopsis with 2 additions. 1. If you post every week what great service mr X provided we get a bit paranoid. 2. If you want to sell something to raise money for a "good cause", you can ask a moderator if it will qualify for the approved sales section see also the forumrules, number 6 I think ;D icps.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=1

Ok thanks. That is what I suspected, I just wanted to make sure first. I have read other threads where some question arose.
The typical form was purchased from petflytrap.com the Hummer's giant was purchased from an independant grower, his homepage is: thecephalotus.info
In case people wonder about shipping, petflytrap.com took about a week to arrive- I was told part of that was due to some incidental issues which caused them to fall a couple of days behind on their orders. The Hummer's giant arrived in about 3 days. Both were packaged very well. I could easily recommend either vendor if one were to ask.

coldcoffee, I have purchased a plant from thecephalotus.info and it is on its way. Thank you for the recommendation. I will report back on my experience with this seller and the plant when I have something to report.

Nice! What variety did you end up getting? Can't wait to see pictures! I think my regular form (The one from Petflytrap) is just about acclimated now. I have not noticed any die off or anything in a little bit. I have a feeling that environment plays a big role. Now, if only my 'Red Piranha' VFTs could get past the transport shock- I'll be in good shape

Hi, I selected the "vigorous" clone to start out with. I am expecting arrival this morning and have a terrarium ready to house it. I will likely select some appropriate Drosera to share the space with it. Very excited to start with my first Cephalotus!

That is such a great feeling!
I actually just ordered my first Pygme sundew (as well as a few more sundews). I never saw the appeal in Pygme sundews because of their size, but after seeing some of the pictures in Barry Rice's book- I began to see the appeal and decided to try them out (Threw in a VFT B-52 for fun too...).

Cold coffee, the Pygmy Sundews are really very charming. I have four species and one hybrid. They are best viewed with a magnifying glass or such, but they are really fascinating. Have you checked out the huge gallery of photos at droseragemmae.com? I posted a photo of am germinating gemmae on the Drosera section of the forum if you want to see what a week old Drosera gemmae looks like.

paulbarden: No, I don't think I have checked out that gallery- but I definitely will. I am really excited about the pygmy- can't wait till it gets here. I generally have not been a big Drosera guy (I only have one right now- until the 7 I just ordered get here), but thought it might be fun to build up a little collection- I do think they have a strong appeal (but they can't compete with pitchers!). I have a bunch of larger varieties that I am trying to grow from seed (D. Spatulata, D. Tokensis, D. Capensis off the top of my head) but they are being very stubborn (I even stratified them for 4 weeks). I have read that some sundews take months to germinate. Thanks for the reference- eye candy for later

My first Cephalotus arrived today (from thecephalotus.info) and I am very pleased with this little plant. Quite a lot of plant, actually, for a reasonable price, IMO. There are about 25 pitchers, no more than about 1/3" tall, in a 3" pot. Quite exciting, really, to have this fellow join the group! Attachments:

@coldcoffee: I have a ten gallon aquarium a neighbor recently gave me, so I will set that up as its home. (With supplemental lighting and some mechanism to aid air movement) I can populate the tank with D. capensis and D. spatulata as companions, I figure.

My set up is very similar. I have my terrarium (also 10 gal for now) in my closet (to keep the humidity up- ironically, despite living 30 minutes from the pacific ocean, we have horribly low humidity here).
Part of why I put it in the closet was so that I could leave the lid off (sounds weird, I know). I have it under a 4-bulb T5 grow light fixture. I also have a fan running in the room which circulates the ambient air. So far my Cephs seem to really like it. The hummer's is growing like crazy. The typical I bought suffered some transport shock but seems to be coming around now. For tank mates, I have a young Nepenthes Ventricosa which is growing beautifully (talk about leaf color! Pitchers died off after I got it but they are starting to come back a little), a Mimosa Puica, and young Sarracenia Purpurea which I am trying to acclimate to outdoor life, and two Byblis Liniflora seedlings. When those Droseras come in, I will probably put some in there are well- I have a second terrarium on deck for those.

@coldcoffee How about photos to update your Cephalotus's? Would love to see how they are doing. Mine is still getting settled; a few pitchers are expanding, but otherwise little evidence of activity. I expected a month or more of "settling in".
