I think for the mexican ping ,the air hygrometry is very important , more than the wet substrate , also if you can keep a good hygrometry around the plants outdoor in shade you won . but attention to the evaporation . try with a hybrid for example a P. 'Sethos' she have a good leaves surface when there are normal ( not succulent) jeff
