EDIT inserted by admin for information:ClubExpress now handles membership for the ICPS. Please go to icps.clubexpress.com/ for information on membership benefits and how to join.Barry, I saw your hint about this on the ListServ. I am anxiously awaiting this becoming a reality. It seems as though many of us who have been interested in CP for several decades, or more, have often been "in-sinc" with I.T., so it warms my heart to think we are about to increase our blending of CP with I.T. even a little bit more.

Joseph,
It does appear that a large percentage of CP growers have IT leanings. I am really looking forward to a method to maintain my membership on-line instead of renewing it after Barry sends me a reminder.
Also does anyone know how to tell what email address is being used on the ICPS website for the Member Login area?
Cheers, Pete

I agree this would be great, I would like to suggest that paypal be accepted as a form of payment

I just looked yesterday to join the ICPS thinking I could do it online but found out otherwise. I'm not good with snail mail. PayPal would be great too. That's what I use for most of my online purchases. However, you do have to factor in that PP takes a little chunk of payments. Its so easy to do something like that when its right there while you're on the site rather than print out a paper copy, write check, find envelope, hunt down stamps and actually get it into the mail.
I think more people would join if its made a "right then and there" thing.

Cheers, Pete It's probably the one that you probably didn't fill (like me) out on the membership application/renewal form. The forgot password function pops up with a "Call 1-866-HLP-CLUB (457-2582)" if it can't find your email. A lot of good that does from out of the US though.

PayPal dings you with a currency conversion fee too, I think it's 3-5%, maybe higher.

I just called the toll free number to gain access, since my email was not accepted, it popped up the window asking me to call, so I called. I spoke with a gentleman there who informed me that though the site was online, it is not yet ready to permit access, that when it is I will be sent an email to my listed email account giving me my user name and password.

I'll second the request for Paypal. How about a small surcharge for using it which would cover any losses to the ICPS due to Paypal's charges?
At the moment, myself, and no doubt most other non US resident members, are already paying for an international letter to send our credit card information (in itself a vast improvement on the previous means of sending fees to the ICPS) and I have to travel to a post office and stand in line to do it. So a small charge would probably be acceptable to many in my opinion, it would be more secure than posting full credit card details too.

I am aware that paypal charges a fee to the receiver for transactions -- so do credit cards -- though I don't have a clue what the percentage might be. Anyway, if ICPS is going to accept credit cards on line, then why not paypal as well.
I also think membership would go up if someone could sign up on line -- much like impulse buying. A theoretical increase in membership would also offset the charges incurred for paypal and credit cards.

I am not sure why ClubExpress responded that way. We are in the transition phase and maybe they are waiting until the letters to members are sent out. Cindy and I can find out your membership information and work with you to get connected.

I don't see how it can be considering the requirements for taking credit cards. If ClubExpress doesn't have the option of paying with Paypal and you really think it is important, we can ask for them to add the feature.

It is too late in the day to contact ClubExpress to confirm the status of our conversion to their system.
We probably made a mistake telling members about the site so soon after getting it set up. It may be a week or two before existing members will be able to access the site because you are listed in the database as "bulk loaded" and that may not change to "active" until after the e-mail announcement goes out. We asked them not to send out the e-mails until there is a chance you will have received a postal mail letter telling you to expect the e-mail. The reason we did that is most members will probably think the e-mail is spam if they are not expecting it.
As with any new enterprise, it has taken us a while to fully understand how their system works.

If the option for Paypal existed I would join on the spot. I'd be more than happy to pay an extra surcharge to make up for any loss during currency conversion etc.

With the current system, your letter containing full address and credit card details could be lost in the post, resulting in your details ending up with a third party = not secure, in my opinion. This isn't a criticism of the USPS; with international members it could happen in their own country or in transit.
With Paypal, whilst there is a risk, Paypal will refund any losses due to on-line fraud. Also, Paypal don't release your full credit card details to the recipient of payments = more security.
On the whole I would find Paypal considerably more convenient to use and perceive it as more secure too, hence I'm in favour of it and wouldn't mind paying a little more for the privilege. Judging by Sean's response - I'm not alone.

I've never joined because you've got to fill out forms and send them through the mail and all that. I'm ready to join right now if I can use paypal.
It seems everyone uses paypal now. Just so simple.
