I am so glad you asked ;D
After a long long absence I joined ICPS and started receiving CPN once again. Unfortunately I found almost all the articles far to technical to hold my interest and I let my subscription drop again.
Years ago when I was first a member, there seemed to be a better balance between the technical articles and articles that addressed cultivation.
I would like to see at least one article an issue aimed at the person who wants to simply grow these amazing plants. This could be about cultivation, care, what to look for when buying a plant etc.
I know of at least two other people who let their membership lapse for the same reason.

Hasn't affected my membership, but I agree. A few more how to articles would be appreciated for the hobbiests.

I am in agreement that I would love to see more common man/woman articles and less technical papers - but in defense of the CPN editors, they can only print what they receive from us to print. Having never submitted any articles on home growing, propagation techniques, etc. I cannot even complain to the other growers for not writing articles. So if you have a trick or two to share please write an article about it and send it in. Those of us without any tricks will greatly appreciate it.
Cheers, Pete

hmmmm -- I didn't realize that CPN just published what was submitted.
I am not sure that I am really qualified to write an article -- that is why I wanted to see more 'how to' type articles.

Hey Nicole,
Have you ever noticed how carnivorous plant growing is heavily dominated by males?
I, for one, would find it interesting to read an article by a female, talking about her interests in carnivorous plants. What makes them interesting to her? What attracted her to the hobby? Does she feel any sense of advantage, or disadvantage, either privilege or prejudice, in being the minority?
I wish I could get some female, oh, maybe in New York, to write such an article.
Come to think of it, while there have been plenty of articles about how-to-grow-cp in CPN and other journals, as far as I know, NO ONE has ever written an article of the format I described.
Wow, that would make it really original, and very cool. Maybe I should write it! Oh, wait, I seem to not be qualified. Dang.

I am not sure that I am really qualified to write an article You will never know unless you try and there is nothing like seeing your byline attached to a published article.

The CPN staff is great at helping to get your article in shape for publication. So dont worry about being a qualified writer. If you have something to write about, type it up and email it to them. Barry worked my article over so much I actually sounded intelligent.

Barry - did you just ask me to write an article for CPN ?? I am truly honored. I would love to write article like the one you described, I am just not so sure I have all that much to say. Still I will think about it, and maybe even give it a whirl and see what happens. Are the article rules on the ICPS web site P.S. -- I still think there should be more how to articles in CPN ;D P.P.S remember - If I do write an article -- you asked for it ;D

Write what you want to write. I tell CPers over and over again....if you are a CPer, and you're interested in something, then some other CPers no doubt are interested in it too.
Don't write for someone else. Write for yourself.
The hard part is creating your article. Getting it ready for CPN is easy. Contact me when you've got something ready. I'm already looking forward to it.

Why can't you just look them up? I don't see what's wrong with any of the language used.

;D There should be more articles written by women CPers! Go for it! I love the fact that more women are getting crazy about CP's!

;D There should be more articles written by women CPers! Go for it! ... As has been said many times, the content and authorship of CPN is dependent on what is submitted for publication. If women do not write and submit articles, we will see none published. I have not detected any overt gender bias by CP community members, but perhaps by bias-detector is malfunctioning.

would it be okay to do an article on what to do and what not to do with aldrovanda and raising them....... There has been a lot written about Aldrovanda---we've even dedicated an entire issue of CPN to it (26:3). You might want to review the past issues to see what's already been written about the plants. But if you have something new to add, please step up to your computer and write something up. I'd love to see it.
