Right now I have a nepenthes I am currently growing outside, N. Alata, and it's pitchering fine. But the problem is there is a 3 inch high 'stem' of dead leaves that's leaving over in the pot, just begging to fall out from the weight. Is this normal? How do I solve it?

I'm no expert on these plants..But i was told that if you peal one of the dead leaves back a little..not so much to break the stem it will think its being attacked by a bug or something and shoot off a new branch. After that you could just cut of the part that's about to fall out..and perhaps get a cutting or two of it. Maybe just a repot will do the job. Got a pic of it?

Hmm, I haven't heard about that, and I've been grown neps for 17 years... Zeph, please describe your plant in more detail, what size pot is it in, how long are the leaves and how tall is it? The more information you supply, the better the answer folks can give you

Yeah Dave, I've never had a chance to try it myself..and as i said i'm not an expert on these guys. The info was passed onto me by the people at triffid park down here in Australia.. I noticed some of there plants had new vines appearing between the leave and steam from an older parts/base of the plants (n-maxima i think). I've had an Alata before and remember there stems not being as robust so might not work for them. was just an idea. If the plant is growing strong and healthy a little stress on it might cause it to create new growth.
And yeah a pic and or some more info of the plant and I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.
