I'm planning some field trips to explore, photograph and film native CP's over the next couple months within a couple hours from home from Pensacola to the Apalachicola area. Sarracenia flava and rosea are coming into bloom and Pinguicula lutea and planifolia are well into their flowering period now. A short video of Pinguicula I made today is on YouTube. If anyone else will be in this area give me a shout.

Hey Randy,
Cool video! I'll be making several trips up that way in April and May, also up to Splinter Hill to meet Keith Tassin of TNC for a few days.
Happy Growing,
Brian.

Makoto Honda says he may be this way in early May. I'm planning a trip leaving from home in Ft Walton Beach, FL east on hwy 20 sometime from the first week to mid May and maybe again in late May. I know of a mediocre site for S. flava along this route. From there I'll continue east, stop off at the greyhound dog track in Ebro for a bit of gaming and a meal. Then on to camp which will be primitive in the state forest or a nearby hotel if it suits. First thing in the morning off to the red Drosera filiformis sites which hopefully will be flowering. Need to be here early to catch the flowering of these sundews and before winds start up that foul the photography. From there on east towards Tallahassee with stops at known sites and maybe some exploring for new ones. I'd like to see a nice strong stand of S. flava as the best one that I've ever found is almost completely destroyed by development. All other sites I know of are mediocre and not very extensive. I'd like to see S. minor in the Apalachicola area which should be in flower. I found it once, but only a couple scrawny plants and it was very dry. That was 9 years ago during a drought and I've forgotten the directions to that site. I'll trek across Apalachicola, photograph and film the red tube flavas, pings and other CPs that will be in their prime. I haven't set a exact date as it depends on the weather forecast. I work weekdays and have weekends off but taking days off from work is not a problem on short notice. If anyone will be in this area and would like to share information and / or coordinate my email is randyzerr **at** hotmail.com replace **at** with @ (I'm paranoid of spambots picking it up and filling my inbox with junk!)

I made an afternoon trip today from here north to Alabama and a couple side trips into Eglin AFB. Heavy rains from wednesday to saturday resulted in some heavy flooding of all the area rivers and creeks. Any low lying bogs along these streams are deep under muddy water. It goes without saying any trips to see these plants for the next month or so will be a disapointment.

Hi Randy,
Thanks for the update! Hmmmm...That's what I was afraid of, after watching the area on radar getting pummeled by much needed rain...too much too fast though. The area definitely needed it and it will aid in prolific flowering of the Sarracenia.
I think it will be much drier in a few weeks or so. Please keep us posted!
Happy Growing,
Brian.

It's getting worse. Over 3 inches of rain today. Too much rain.

Hey Randy, Yep....same here, a few hundred miles south! Too much rain, too fast. The dry ground can't handle it all. What we needed was several days of good, slow drizzle....not a d*&%ned monsoon! ;D When the water does finally recede though, CP growth will be off the charts in the Panhandle. That's what I'm looking forward too... Thanks for the update. Happy Growing, Brian

Hey Randy, Great pics! I need to get up that way...now's the perfect time. What days would you be available for some bog-trotting? Say in....two weeks or so? Brian.
