Hi there Mikei,
My advice would be this: start by growing the species that live in the same growing conditions where you live. The plants will take care of themselvs with very little effort on your behalf. Then when you've gotten good results with that, start collecting from other areas.
Then go crazy!!!
I've just built a greenhouse for my collection and they've never looked better. Now I'm importing and I'm drooling over what to get next.
It's so much more fun to see your plants thrive compared to watching them suffer and not really know why... "Is it the soil, is it the hot weather....." Trust me I've been there.
