I have two dewy pine seedlings coming up. Right now they are potted in pure horticultural sand in a terra cotta clay pot. It is set in a shallow saucer of water. I know that I will need to repot soon as the roots can get long pretty quickly. Also, I will need to do this to separate the two plants so one doesn't get killed by the other. I'm wondering what suggestions people might have for potting medium. I'm tempted just to put them into larger terra cotta pots with pure sand (since it's not always as hot and dry as the dewy pine would like here in SF). My original plant died and that was in a mix of perlite, vermiculite, and peat it looked like. I never took it out of that pot since I had brought it home from the nursery. I then Slack potted it into a larger terra cotta pot filled with vermiculite and topped of with some LFSM. I think the plant may have stayed too moist in that situation. Any suggestions on what to use for my two seedlings?

it does not seem to matter much as long as it is well drained. mixtures where the base is mostly sand and/or grit and/or perlite with a little peat all work well. Avoid vermiculite, it is too moisture retentive and in my experience toxic to most CPs except Pinguicula....
Don't bother Slack potting, just put in a large pot with as much original compost as you can, scooping up carefully to avoid disturbance
