Welcome! I love the fact that this forum attracts such diverse languages. Let's see, my Spanish is horrible but .... pure life... greetings my friends from the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and the other type. And then you said hello to Alfredo (Which I haven't spoken to in quite some time!)
So how'd I do? Better than my French at least!

very close! but i said tico not tipo. tico is the informal name given to the inhabitants of costa rica, formal being costarricense or costarican in english. the only other tico (that i know of, anyway) who is a member of the icps is alfredo and it´s good to hear that you already know him.

let me think how i'm going to do this... ok
justlikeapill: nope, alfredo is costarican and he and his family have a lab where they have been tissue culturing orchids for a while. since sept they started tc'ing pc's and ... wait a minute, i'll let the guy tell his own story. hope he's not too busy.
jpcuy: ¿ya viste la explicación de qué es tico? si te interesa, luego te puedo contar el origen del mote.
and finally
marcel: dag meneer! thanks for the welcome. hopefully we won't have to wait too long for a tica to join. just in case you want to talk with one and practice your spanish, my sister lives with her husband in hoorn. pm me for her e-mail.
tot zins!

¡hola agustín! ¡latinoamérica a la conquista del mundo, hoy australia, mañana china! ja ja ja. thanks for the wishes regarding my plants. can't complain. i have to write my memoirs on the topic and the book's title (presumptuous, agreed) should be something like "the cultivating pioneer of pc's in costa rica". ha ha ha. btw. one of what i like to think of as my success stories, is raising cephalotus from seed! they're 6-7 months old and doing fine. painfully slow growers, but hey, they're alive! i'll bet you have some beautiful ones in your collection, huh?
justlikeapill: is hs high school? hmmmm, nah, don't think it's the same guy... lol

Ok, we'll see if she's intrested. By the way, our eventsagenda is on our website www.carnivora.nlJust had a seedssalesevent organised by the Botancal gardens of Utrecht and a lot of seeds were sold, many to first time growers wich we always give written instructions for every species. We're getting a lot of members that way. Marcel

i wonder if trying to get people interested in pc's through seed planting is the most effective way to do it. as you know, they're slow and hard to sow (except for some species of drosera which can become a weed in collections), especially if people get the chance to buy established plants as is the case in your country. i should know, you see, when i started cultivating, all i could get were seeds, as importing plants was a herculean task. however, thanks to the now famous alfredo and his lab, nurseries and even grocery stores sell vft's and various nepenthes species. all grown and ready to catch bugs which is, after all, the main reason people get into cultivating cp's. the fact that they're so readily available and the low price (vft's are selling for less than us$ 5 ea and neps at $10) has started a craze here in costa rica comparable only to the introduction of rubik's cube 25 years ago. lol, i sometimes get carried away.
