A bit short on the notice, but it's that time of year for the annual Pine Barrens Trip. I'm staying at a different location then I have the past 3 years I've made this trip. I will be staying at the Bass River State Forest, South Shore Campground. The dates will be July 18-20th. I will be there early on the 18th, took off work. :-D . I have site #9 reserved. I know that Ron L. will be making reservations as soon as he can. Unfortunately my friend Gale can not make it those dates this year, and for me to push it back would end up in early August and want to get there sooner then that. Plus I may make a second trip this year. The plans are as always......., up in the air. I always take my canoe and do some exploring on the water. I may take the mountain bike this year. Ron do you have one? Gonna take it with you? If I can find Webb Mills Bog again, probably stop there. I'm afraid I'm out for this year. Timing is bad for us as the kids will be in survival camp that week and I really need to bring the kids with me. Pine Barrens is an experience I believe they need.

Sorry you can not make it this year Mike.
It's about that time.
I will be leaving tomorrow after work for the Pine Barrens. ;D
I do know that Rich is going to be coming out Saturday morning around 8:00 - 8:30. We will be going to Webb Mills Bog and some other locations. Then arrive back to Bass River campsite around noon to do some paddling.

For heaven's sake...the pics, man....we want the pics! ;D I can't wait to see them. Do me a favor....measure the tallest Drosera filiformis filiformis you can find. I want to compare them to the isolated Florida colonies we have here in the Panhandle. I believe our form is much, much smaller and barely goes dormant, which occurs in summer instead of fall or winter. Dormancy is then broken in mid-winter and growth resumes. They also remain soaking wet and semi-submerged during dormancy! It would be rather interesting to compare..... Have fun! Brian.

I'll see what I can find.
I do grow some Drosera filiformis filiformis Fl Red and regular Drosera filiformis filiformis. I can see a big difference between the 2. The Fl Red is smaller and near as robust as the seed grown Drosera filiformis filiformis from the Pine Barrens.
I almost have everything packed up. Just a few things to throw in the car after work and away I go!

The Florida D. filiformis filiformis are indeed a different form of D. filiformsis variety filiformis. There are two kinds of D. f. f. in Florida; the red plants and the normal kind also found further north. However, I have never seen the normal kind from Florida. Does anyone grow it? The red plants have become that red, because the very intense sunlight they receive. They grow on pure sand and get light from above and below. They don't show any morphilogical differences from the normal D. f. f. (Unlike D. f. tracyi), but do have a longer growing season and they can go dormant here in New Jersey. I think they should be named at form rank.

Hi Dave! Check out the photos in my Fl. Panhandle field report on the FCPS site; www.floridacarnivorousplantsociety.orgYou'll see the typical what I call the "Golden Chalice" form and the blood red form as well.... I do grow both Fl. forms as well as the 'Pine Barrens' form, and they are definitely much smaller than their northern variants up your way... Plus, the Fl. forms go dormant in Summer instead of Fall and can remain soaking wet during dormancy. Then, they awaken in mid-winter. Weird... Our Drosera intermedia and Drosera capillaris go dormant here in Summer also! Ahhh....'tis yet another example of the great mystery, which is the carnivorous plant!! I understand that the ones up your way are entering early dormancy because of dry conditions? Happy Growing, Brian.

Good evening all as a new member in NJ I was wondering are members invited to come camp if your still having a get together or would this be for close friends only?

Yes Bob thank you I'm new to ICPS and forums in general. I have many questions do I create a post or thread? I'm not sure how to keep things current and have been adding replies which might go unnoticed.

Any time you add a post or reply, it is bumped to the top (listed first) -- so it should not get "lost".
