Nice pictures! Thats a pretty amazing site for someone who isn't familiar with that plant type.... I guess I'm not going to be running out to get one for my terrarium. Lol. Ahh... one day when I get a green house that is heated...
What is the function of that long extension and also of the pitcher looking thing? I'm guessing by your description the pitcher looking thing is the spathe and the long extension is the spadix? What is their purpose?
Please forgive my ignorance of these basics.

Awesome plant. It has really nice foliage, too.

It's the flower structure. The actual flowers are hidden by the spathe at the base of the spadix. Quite why the spadix is so elongated in this species I have no idea. In many other species it is much shorter and does not extend beyond the spathe.

Thanks for clearing that up. I figured it was the flower but I was thrown off by the bottom picture of the flowers. I got confused and I thought they belonged on the same plant but were "hidden in amongst the leaves" so they were hidden in the top pictures. Now I see your caption that says it is from an apple blossom. Everything makes sense now. Awesome looking plant. Thanks for sharing.
