Spring last year I received a Sarracenia division and during shipment a small 1 inch portion of the rhizome broke off. The portion had a growing point but the roots had snapped off. I potted it up and all of last year's growing season it showed no growth at all. The existing leaves either slowly turned brown or failed to develop/grow at all.
This growing season it grew a few pitchers.
I imagine last year it spent most of it's energy growing new roots.
So don't give up yet. See what next year's growing season brings.
BTW: the S. rubra ssp gulfensis pull I have is growing pitcher leaves but no roots. Go figure.
