I live in Michigan (zone 5ish) and overwinter my sarrs collection in my garage every year. There are no windows and when its below freezing outside, the garage door is always closed. My plants are in complete darkness (for the most part) for about 4 solid months with absolutely no harm to them come spring. They have even frozen solid for brief periods of time while in the garage. They are tough plants as long as they don't dry out during the winter.
i have gained a huge trash bag full of live sphagnum moss, so i will have my mini-bog garden setup soon. ill add the pitcher plant after it experiences a good frost. right now its outside in the rain and it gets cold at night. the pitcher leaves have died but the small leaves at the base are still healthy.
also, my flytrap is doing what it does best! i have counted 9 fungus gnats in several traps, and just yesterday the plant caught a fly on its own!
thankyou everyone for the advise and tips, keep it coming.
all its leaves have died off, its getting down into the mid 30s at night with 60s as the high during the day. no frost yet.
id like to move the remains into a new container with some other plants i bought. should i wait till there is new growth, or can i disturb it right now?
also. after 20 days or so, the leaves were dead or dieing. i assumed the shock of drying out at home depot and the huge light change forced my plant into dormancy. fortunately, it started getting cold out so i just put the plant outside. it is rained on 2-3 times per week now, and all the leaves are dead. the plant has been leafless for two, maybe three weeks now. can i wait till the first night of frost, then bring the plant back into the house?
