Recently I had an opportunity to do some CP hunting in the Green Swamp of NC. I had a fantastic time despite the fact that it wasn't the best season to view Sarracenia. I still got to see loads of plants including a variety of Sarracenia, Drosera and flytraps. Although I wasn't expecting to see any, we got a real treat when we found Pinguicula! That was very exciting. I was wondering if anyone could ID them. Being late January they were not flowering, but if anyone has suggestions on the species, I'd appreciate it. The little buggers were tucked up under grasses so it would have been easy to miss them in the large pine savannah they were growing in. If anyone gets an opportunity to tour the Green Swamp, I'd highly recommend it. It was just beautiful!

Both P. caerulea and P. lutea occur at Green Swamp.
They are pretty hard to tell apart when not in flower, but do differ in their habitat requirements, P. caerulea prefers much wetter conditions to P. lutea. So if I was a gamblin' man, I'd put my money on P. caerulea.

I knew those two are found in the Green Swamp and that they are hard to tell apart (when not in flower). That's why I thought I'd see if anyone might have any additional tips other than flowers for ID. They were growing in very wet conditions, some partially submerged. I guess the flowering season will be the real clincher. Thanks Vic!
