Hello...
First post.
I am new to carnivorous plants.
I live in Oregon USA. I just saw some Darlingtonia californica in the field when I was hiking near the coast. I became interested in this plant group. After reading a little bit it seemed that Nepenthes ventrata was a good choice for beginners like me. I ended up buying this one on Amazon:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DN8O5V0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a small stand that I hope to put it on. I plan to use a 5,000K LED that is 17.5 watts. How far above the plant should I place my light? The plant will be in a window, but it is often overcast here in Oregon so I do not get a lot of light, especially now that winter is coming. We may not see the sun until April of 2019. Do I need to increase my watts? I can also move up to 6,000K if need be. This is what I had on hand. I am trying to keep my hardware costs down in case I need to buy more plants.
I understand that my temps need to be above 50 F (10 C) and not much more than 75 F (24 C). My house never gets much below 63 or 65 F (18 C) and not much warmer then 72 to 75F. Is this OK?
Do I need to run a small fan to circulate the air like one might do in a greenhouse?
I have read that over winter I can drop a small cricket in a pitcher once a month or so. Is that correct?
I worry that the humidity in my home is not very high. I am in the process of receiving a remote temperature and humidity gauge to check this out. What % humidity should I be looking for? I have distilled water.
I have worked in a botanical garden and have some basic gardening skills, but I do not know anything about this plant group. Suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
