Hey everybody. Been a member of ICPS for a year but never got around to introducing myself. So a big hello to all of you. Better late than never.
My name is Eddie. I live in Shirley, New York. Shirley is on Long Island, which is part of New York state, although they are only connected to one another by a few bridges. If you look on a map of the northeast United States, Long Island is that fish shaped piece sticking out from the mainland. Shirley is on Long Island's south shore, very close to Fire Island, which is another piece of land which in turn is connected to Long Island by a few bridges. Confusing you all yet? Fire Island is famous for a few things, as are the nearby Hamptons, and there are wealthy and famous people living there. I am not among their number. I just paint their homes.
None of which has anything to do with carnivorous plants. I mention it only as an introduction. I know not everyone on here is from the U.S., so I included a bit of geography. I think I'm USDA Zone 7 or 7b?
I've always been into growing things for as long as I can remember. About fifteen years ago I went into a fanatical stage with growing CPs. That seemed to peak and I kind of fell away from carnivorous plants when my focus changed to cacti and growing super hot peppers. About a year ago my interest in CPs returned and I joined the ICPS again and purchased a bunch of sundew seeds from the seedbank. Right now I have a few batches of seedlings from these going. Mostly forms of Drosera capensis. I hear people refer to them as weeds, but they are beautiful weeds and I'm looking forward to seeing them grow out to their full size.
I also managed to germinate (and subsequently kill) Byblis liniflora and Drosophyllum lusitanica, which were purchased from the seedbank in the late summer of 2015. I hope to do better on my next attempt.
That's it for now. Stay well, everyone.
Peace.
Eddie
