Both U. quelchii clones are currently flowering together for the 1st time. Once I got pics of each & started to look at them, I was surprised at how different they are - both in color & structure. I had not noticed this before. Since differences in lighting / white balance can easily change the perception of color, I also spent time attempting to get one pic with flowers from both clones in it so there was little doubt as to the differences. Since the flowers faced away from the front of the tank (naturally), this was almost impossible... Structurally, the Ilu tepui clone reminds me of of U. campbelliana. For color (for which I am an extremely poor judge), the no-location clone appears closer to U. campbelliana... BCP clone - no location Ilu tepui Both (this is a different stalk of the BCP no-location clone from the one pictured above)

Photo color balance is indeed important. Is the Ilu tepui flower actually bluish? I think so but I'm horrible w/ colors (I'm partially color blind but supposedly not in anything near blue). From my perspective, the colors in these pics are very close to what I see when I look directly at the flowers. The color being so different is why I felt strongly that I needed to get flowers from both plants in the same pic so color balance was less of an issue (even though the pic itself was aesthetically poor). When I look at these flowers, it's hard to even say they are the same species. Last year, the Ilu Tepui plant flowered several weeks after the other plant's blooms were gone & I was quite busy at the time so I didn't even snap any pics.

Most of the flowers fell off today (from pollination), although some were in better condition than the others. I gathered up the two U. quelchii forms & added one of the U. humboldtii. Then I took a pic with my other camera.

I am struck by the resemblance of the Ilu Tepui flower to the flower of campbelliana. Maybe those two are closely related to each other like jamesoniana and asplundii, so the flowers can look similar.

fwiw, Mine is currently in flower. White balance should be spot on. Image taken under 5000k 92CRI lighting. No post processing other than crop/resize. tag is long gone, but believe this one came from you Ron. Av
