I recently visited a bog in southeast Michigan. Several pitcher plants had been observed in this location the previous spring yet none could be found in mid-December. The weather has been cold and there was 6 inches of snow at the time of the visit. Are the pitcher-shaped leaves deciduous? Regrow every year?

S. purpurea pitchers are retained over winter and through the next year. New pitchers will grow in spring, but the old pitchers will be retained. Six inches of snow is likely deep enough to cover the plants. Take a look at the photos linked at cpphotofinder.com/sarracenia-purpurea-511.html
