I think it is. But then, all the sphagnum I have tends to grow year round.....

In this post I simply want to illustrate how cultural conditions can affect identification and certainly appearance. Despite having identical, or nearly identical genotype, many plants are quite variable in phenotype, depending on environmental variation. The last plant in this series of photos was recently moved to lower light levels, where the leaves began to etiolate and lose their reddish coloration. For instance, Pinguicula 'Aphrodite'.

I apologize, hcarlton, I hijacked your thread. I've moved the offending posts to link Cultivar review.

Much thanks to a generous fellow grower, I just about doubled the number of butterworts I grow. Some of them are already flowering, others just look nice, and a few of my original plants are worth shooting: Had this cross a while back, lost it for unknown reasons P. 'Pirouette' by hawken.carlton, on Flickr The first of possibly many flowers P. 'Pirouette' by hawken.carlton, on Flickr This one may or may not flower soon P. emarginata x jaumavensis by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. sp. Yucca Do 1713 by hawken.carlton, on Flickr Just hitting summer growth, this flower was present when it arrived, and a second is on the way. When it bloomed, this became my favorite flower of them all P. moranensis "Huahuapan" by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. moranensis "Huahuapan" by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. moranensis "Huahuapan" by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. ehlersiae albiflora by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P .rotundiflora x hemiepiphytica by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. rotundiflora x hemiepiphytica by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. Things already look promising too P. ehlersiae by hawken.carlton, on Flickr P. ehlersiae by hawken.carlton, on Flickr These guys have been struggling, but appear to be slowly gaining ground again P caerulea by hawken.carlton, on Flickr This one is already settled and growing fast, can't wait to see those famous flowers P. primuliflora 'Rose' by hawken.carlton, on Flickr And my last new arrival, who had a bunch of sprouting gemmae. I think your P. moranensis "Huahuapan" is the cultivar P. moranensis var. 'Huahuapan' described on page 110 in Adrian Slack's 1988 book "Insect-Eating Plants and how to grow them".

Looking at pics, I think you're probably right. In any case it's a beautiful plant. Got these guys from Bob Z. so the quotes were probably just a small oversight.

P. emarginata x jaumavensis by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr These guys are adorable... P. sp. Yucca do 1713 by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr Mutant flower P. ehlersiae by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr Also, I have become suspicious of my P. 'Pirouette' and the moranensis x ehlersiae clone I have. The growth pattern and flower color/pattern is nearly identical. Which is the correct name if they are the same? I would like to trust The person I got the 'Pirouette' from as I think he should know his stuff, but does that mean I've had that cultivar for years now? In other news, I have also harvested what should be the following seeds: pure P. ehlersiae, P. ehlersiae x moranensis 'Huahuapan', and moranensis 'Huahuapan' x (rotundiflora x hemiepiphytica). Now to make some room to sow them...

Hmm, did you give the P. primuliflora a dormancy period? They need to have an at least brief period of cold temps and shortened daylight hours every year, otherwise they tend to not last long.
Otherwise I don't know, I haven't had that problem before.

Never had to treat my typical plant with that sort of thing, and I've kept at least one going for years now. The 'Rose' I only got recently, so it's not related to that, white flower is experiencing issues similar to 'Rose' and also was received only earlier this year.
