This update to v5 was mandated by ProBoards. We are still learning and trying to tweak the design so that our happiness index is improved. My apologies in advance for whining -- but several of the times that I've tried to get into the forums since the upgrade, it won't let me in. Today it took 4-6 tries to be allowed in. It was especially frustrating because - when I first came to the site, I could see the forum - posts & threads (but as an outsider) - I log in & it acknowledges me with a "Welcome RL7836" but then says I must use my email to log in (ok - so the forum acknowledges that I've successfully logged in & it knows who I am) - however, although the message says I must enter my email address, the empty boxes provided are for username & password --- not an email address. - each time I fill in the boxes, it will not allow me into the forum. At one point, I received a screen saying the forum was offline (that a bear had broken it - or some other silly message) - I have no idea why it allowed me in with the last attempt - as I did nothing different Ironically, if anyone else is having the same trouble, you probably would not know because they cannot get on the forum to let you know (I was about to give up myself) Whine mode: OFF

Hi Ron,
I don't have all the answers for you but I can give some info on some of these points. First of all: we moved to another server. It has some advantages for us and 90% of the time it is much faster than the old one, but sometimes it has a "slow moment" and it can be difficult to log in.
The bear breaking in/angry bear notice is a sort of "we are experiencing technical difficulties " note by Proboards itself.
The log in problem with the two boxes is also a proboards feature. They say it is a security feature and basically it allows you to log in once and then switch between multiple forums that use proboards. Your username is your e-mail and then you add your password. It then takes you to the forum. In the bottom right corner you see 3 pictograms in a box. The first one (2 people) allows you to switch accounts if you have more than one. The second one allows you to swith forums without having to log in again on the other forum and the third one (sproked wheel) is you settings of this proboards layer. Make sure you fill it out correctly and check the remember me option. It might take a couple of times for proboards to get it right but after that you shouldn't have the problem anymore.

As I recall after the upgrade users needed upgrade their accounts also by logging in with an email address. There was a note about this prior to the upgrade to make sure that the email address associated with your account was valid and up-to-date. After that it takes a couple of times logging in with your user name before things settle in. Clearing the cookies for this site may help too.

The thing that has never worked for me is the search function, it always says unable to connect to server According to Proboards tech support the search function is currently "offline" as they work on a technical issue. I temporarily put the Google search back at the bottom of the pages but it is ugly apparently because Proboards has limited HTML codes that can be used in the headers and footers.

With some help from John B & then from the Proboards support forum - my issue has been resolved. It turns out that I had joined multiple Proboards forums but used two different emails to do it. This didn't matter until v5 - when they made the email address critical.
Thanks again for all of the suggestions & support.
