Pinglover, I'm glad you like the planter! If / when you do decide to go without drainage, use caution when watering! I got the glass "planter" (it's actually a candle holder) at a store here in Florida called Old Time Pottery. I believe it is the equivalent of a store called The Pottery Barn.? I have seen nice glassware at Target in various departments. You have to use your imagination and not just focus on the plant areas of the stores. My ex wife use to enjoy shopping for such things. I don't see as much diversity (in glassware : as I used to. Take care, Steven Stewart

A glass candle holder? What are the dimensions of that please? We have a Pottery Barn about an hour south of me. We have Target stores all over the place so it would be easy enough to check what they have. I will go to both and poke around. If I see something else similar, would you like me to be your rental wife and just pick one up for you and for me? I could ship it out to where ever you are. No sense getting yourself another wife when you can borrow somebody else's temporarily. I hear we can be rather expensive to unload and who wants to go through all that mess twice! By the way, I shop well and even better when I am using my husband's credit card! That being said, I love your set up now share with me how you address the lack of drainage.

Pinglover, One of my fondest memories of my ex, is her skill at finding unusual deals on "stuff" that I don't know how I lived without before she brought it home! I fear I am reverting back to a less domesticated form of life. If I see something else similar, would you like me to be your rental wife and just pick one up for you and for me? I could ship it out to where ever you are. No sense getting yourself another wife when you can borrow somebody else's temporarily. I am out of nice glassware, but I need to get out more myself, thanks for the offer though! I even have an original box the glass came in. It is a San Simeon 10" Candle-holder-Vase with wrought iron stand by Artland. The box is about 7"x7"x12" I will look around some shops in this area and if I see anything specific, I will let you know! If you look online you may find it for a good price as well. When growing plants without drainage I find a turkey baster is needed for plant(s) specific use. If you do happen to over water (and you will) you can suck the excess water out and use it on a plant you didn't water enough. If water is left standing in a planter it will quickly sour and kill the plant. I find a live growing media to be safest, like Sphagnum moss. Live media will utilize water, and rather than break down, it grows. In glassware the media can get light from the bottom, and grow evenly throughout. You will need to periodically harvest plants and media once the planter is established. The first photograph I posted shows a Heliamphora in a planter with a small opening. It looks and grows great, but the glass has to be broken to replant, and harvesting is impossible without doing harm to the rest of the plant. I have several planters that I am doing recovery for, from people that have either over watered, used poor quality tap water, or worse yet, water softener water, that the salesman promised would make the plants grow even better. Take care, Steven Stewart

Pinglover, the one i got came from Black jungle last year. I don't think they have offered in a while. Based on some other forum topics, it may be hard to find now. It was probably a batch from TC and they were offered all at one time.
Peter.

If Heliamphora 'Tequilla' is a "Truly easy to grow Heliamphora" then divisions from it should be available for trade or sale, for a low price, soon. If not, it may be best to look for another type to grow in sub-optimal conditions. Patience is important when working with this genus, they are not "fast" growers.
Take care, Steven Stewart

Why not try the other hybrid, H. heterodoxa x minor? This one also seems to be easy to grow and may be more available. It is sometimes offered on ebay. peter.

I believe that you must get H. 'Tequila' directly from ep now. I haven't seen anyone else with H. 'Tequila' for quite a while.

Pinglover, Wow! It looks like you did some on line shopping! The first type looks like a better one than I have, but possibly a little smaller. I have two planters like the one you like the best, I think they were a little less expensive, but I might have missed that credit card statement. I am growing an Anthurium and a large Lycopodium in them, and I don't know why. Two were purchased for planting Heliamphora in, used in a flower show at Disney World, and those were sold. They are the perfect size for a Heliamphora. The one on the pedestal looks like it would be good for a Nepenthes, but looks like it is top heavy and might tip over without much effort. No planter is too small if you decide to grow plants other than Heliamphora in it. (but that would be going off topic I think you will soon have a nice planter, now you just need to decide which species or hybrid you want to grow, and find the perfect spot, to show and grow it. Thank you for the links! Take care, Steven Stewart

If you have a Michaels around, they have lots of glassware like that, and even really tall modern looking vases and giant fishbowls (seriously huge things) that could work.
Or some close out place that sells excess products like Tuesday Morning or I bet Pier 1 Imports would have something cool. Maybe the Pottery Barn.

Decorative stores that have silk flowers and whatnot usually have lots of glass containers for a good price as well, I've gotten a few from those places. quogue- where do I purchase a 'Tequilla' please? Don't know anymore, got mine from Black Jungle when they had em... Only place I can think of is directly from EP..
