Hello, I just wanted to ask if there is a carnivorous plant society for residents in NJ, and if not would anyone be interested in forming one? I know of many prominent growers in NJ and it would be great if we could get together sometime and share our knowledge of CPs. Any input is welcome, nepenthes99

I am not aware of one, but perhaps just getting together socially could be fun. Be Well, Jason Ksepka jasonksepka.smugmug.com

I think this is a good idea and would love to see this come together. Let me know what you decide and hopefully i can even help out in some way.

This has been discussed a few times in the past and there was even a kickoff meeting. However, without some people willing to take the initiative, reversion to status quo occurs. Several years ago, a group of us got together at a centrally-located grower's place & had a barbecue. This was a great time.

I found this thread helpful, thanks for recommending it. I am in central NJ as well, and am somewhat close to the pine barrens , so maybe we could meet at a bog or something and go bog trekking.

We camped and explored in our boats as well as on land. We'd post the dates and people never showed up. Often, after we posted pics of the trip, people would say how much they wanted to go and would definitely come the following year (but they never showed). Here's one of the trip threads.

I would love to go out to a bog but every weekend of mine is booked for October thanks to the future wife. I could squeeze in something on the 20th/21st but no promises. I propose mixing carnivorous plants with a football sunday? Maybe have a meeting at a sports bar/restaurant?

I live in Hamilton Square, Mercer County and go to the pines regularly. I usually go alone, but company is fun sometimes. Message me if interested in working something out. I work weekends. Be Well, Jason Ksepka jasonksepka.smugmug.com

Just a thought:
Name it the Mid-Atlantic CP meet or whatever to make it more inclusive for all the spread-out hobbyists of the region and see if Rich Siverston can get some space at Longwood for a get-together with maybe a Pine-Barrens trip afterwards... would be centrally located for quite a few CPer's.
No football for me, No thanks! Yes to beer at the pub afterwards...

jasonNepenthes99 and I are also located in Mercer County, so perhaps this may work out, many of us are quite close by,the Barrens are about 45 mins to an hour, not that bad if you consider that some of us are coming from Long Island.

Long Island has it's own Pine Barrens as well. I still haven't seen it yet. Perhaps a trip up that way as well? Be Well, Jason Ksepka jasonksepka.smugmug.com

I am quite familiar with the Long Island Pine Barrens... and some great sites out towards Montauk that should not be missed

Nepenthes99 and or RL7836,
Would you two, or anyone willing to take lead on this, possibly try and get something planned for March/April maybe? A more realistic suggestion from me would be an inaugural meet and greet type of event. If possible maybe do a small talk on winter care of plants in the mid-atlantic or early spring care, just as a generalized agenda to get discussion going.
