Hi,
I am looking at growing Sarracenia from seed (I have not done this before) and was wondering what people's views were on seeds obtained from self pollinated plants?
The reason I ask this is that I have found information stating that selfing can result in symptoms of inbreeding such as poor germination rates, slow growth and a high proportion of runts.
I have found growers who are offering seed which is exclusively from self pollinated plants.
I'm interested in hearing what the more experienced growers have to say on this topic.....
Thanks

Here is a paper on the topic studying Sarracenia flava www.amjbot.org/content/87/11/1628.full.pdfThere are numerous other studies looking at the genetic diversity of Sarracenia purpurea populations that have been introduce to Ireland, France and Switzerland. These can be found easily through Google.
