I found this Sarracenia in Croatan National Forest. I know its some sort of Sarracenia purpurea, possibly a hybrid, but I'm pretty sure its just the species. Does anyone know if it is a ssp. venosa, ssp. venosa var. montana, or some other kind of Sarracenia purpurea? Attachments:

The plant you found is a hybrid of S. purpurea venosa (given the location) and S. flava. I've spent a good deal of time in Croatan, and I've seen lots of the individual species above (as well as D. muscipula) but I can't remember ever seeing the S. x catesbei you found. Nice find :-).

I have grown a number of Catebaei and i've never seen one with a hood like this one, usually they are very round, almost kidney shaped while this one more closely resembles a typical purpurea hood. Thanks for the input though! If it helps the pitcher was approximately 6 inches tall but very narrow when compared to the typical purpurea pitchers

S. x catesbei comes in an endless variety of forms, due to introgression back to one parent or the other. I have some that look almost like S. purpurea and others that look almost like S. flava, plus everything in between. I have never seen a "typical" S. x catesbei. I have perhaps 25 clones in my collection, and they're very different from one another (!)
