Almost any leaf litter of monocot plants will do, Carex, to Typha, even Phragmites, Juncus sp., etc, but remember, it's only a part of the entire equation, the pond water (not tap water) must contain a decent culture of zooplanktonic constituants, including copepdos, snails etc., and the presence of active, living monocot plants within close proximity to the Aldrovanda, with some clay, direct sunlight for at least six (6) hours per day are just some of the basic requirements for Aldrovanda to survive. They are rootless plants and need to feed.
