I am currently growing a few species and would like to study them in greater detail in terms of pulvinus, flower morphology, pedicel and leaf ratio, and presence of sessile glands. Are there any photos of how the glands look like? If not, should I be looking for something similar to the sessile glands found on Drosophyllum in the following link? www.carnivorousplants.org/cp/Digestion.phpthanks!

Hello! Here's some sessile gland photos and commentary that will help you with your Byblis quest; www.cpukforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=36376In regards also to B. gigantea and B. lamellata, I usually sow seed in cooler weather, usually in Fall or early Spring. This proves successful in my tropical condiitions... Happy Growing, Brian

Hi Brian!
I've studied your photos (really enlarged them) but can't see the sessile glands. I think I am not looking for the correct thing...are the sessile glands stalked? Or are they just little dots flat on the stem? TIA!
Thanks for the info on the perennial Byblis too. Hmmm...I've got to think of something since there is no cooler weather here. We are hot and dry, hot and terribly humid or warm and wet. LOL

What are sessile glands? Here are some close-up pics of various Byblis species I have growing at the moment. According to this pdf, the only species with sessile glands covering shoot apex is B. rorida.

Cindy:
My understanding of the term 'sessile' used botanically is that it means 'stalkless' and that 'sessile glands' occur on the surface rather than above it. I apologize if this isn't much help. I would suggest a Byblis leaf under a dissecting microscope might be the best way to view the sessile glands. I've never seen them in my plants either.
Those are magnificent photographs!

Hi Mark,
Thanks! The camera is not the best for macro shots so I assumed that I did not manage to capture any sessile glands.
