Upon unpacking a new Sarracenia I got in the post yesterday, I discovered one of the plants had a moderate infestation of Thrips. I recall reading somewhere (Was it The Savage Garden?) that you can put the plant in a bag and seal it up with a flea collar to get rid of the insects. What I don't remember is how long the plant should remain in the sealed bag with the collar. (Don't fret; its in a shady place so it won't cook) It was sealed in the bag last night for about 14 hours and this AM I opened the bag to allow some air movement, but the collar is still in the bag with the plant.
Any experience with this treatment? What can you recommend? Thanks!
Paul

Spinosad is very effective on thrips. I've not seen it sold at the big garden centers in the US such as Home Depot or Lowes. A local garden shop or smaller chain nursery is your best bet. Some products to look for in the US are Conserve, Green Light Lawn & Garden Spray Spinosad, Monterey Garden Insect Spray. Like Bt Spinosad can have minimal collateral damage on non-target species. Always follow the application instructions and use the recommended concentrations. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpinosadI'll leave it up to you to do some research on thrips. Know your enemies.
