Several years ago, I found this trap on one of my VFTs: The other day, I noticed a similar but different trap developing. Here it is, open & fully formed: When I noticed the small bug in the center of the trap, I tried to ease it out. Nope - the trap is at least somewhat functional: .... and here's what I saw when I first noticed it:

This looks awesome! I would like to know, is it the same venus flytrap as the one from several years ago?

I do have to ask though, is this photoshopped or legit? If that is legit, that is really cool!

I'm going to take this at face value and say I find it very cool. ;D Good photography, too.
If several plants that occasionally produced such traps were crossed and offspring were chosen with the same tendencies and crossed again, etc. perhaps it would be possible to develop a two-headed cultivar. Wouldn't that be fun?

there used to be a lot more links but were probably removed on request or because they were "dead"): I rarely (perhaps once in a decade) receive a request to remove a link from the CP Photo Finder. However I frequently remove dead links.

Hey matt. what you have seen on your Capensis is fairly common. I usually have a few hundred D.Capensis of various varieties here at any time, and I see this kind of Vegetative Apomixis quite often. This phenomenon is not a mutation, whereas the double trap is.

hey peter, wow, ur lucky you've got a bunch of them. That's kinda a bummer cause it seemed pretty crazy unique to me. So, does it happen at random on any flower at any time or is it on the same plants over and over again? I still really want mine to come back. Thanks for the info, Matt

I do have to ask though, is this photoshopped or legit? If that is legit, that is really cool! Sorry - I didn't think your question was real. My current photoshop skills consist of cropping & lightening/darkening. ;D The pics are legit. Earlier today, I went out to take another pic but the one side curled in a bit more than the other so it no longer has the almost-perfect 'heart' symmetry.

No worries, my question was not meant to be completely serious. It looked real to me, had it been Photoshopped, I would have been very impressed

Thanks for the info, Matt It happens randomly on a lot of my Capensis. You should also look out for this on flytraps, as it frequently happens with them as well.
