So after whining about spring getting off to a slow start (which seriously, for us it was), we jumped right up to 72 - 80 degree weather for a week - even sleeping with the windows open - the girls JUMPED into action pitchers coming up from everywhere, flytraps pushing out solid growth - around the yard, roses budding up, as well as all of the citrus blooming along with the aloes - Japanese maples fully leaved out, orchids and nepenthes re potted and in the cold frame....EVERYTHING looking stellar, and then yesterday, after a report of a "possible light shower - won't even count" @ 5 PM the sky was looking like it was about to kick some serious ass - and it did. Within seconds a deluge started the wind kicked up, and it got COLD - the deluge then turned to hail, which proceeded to turn to rain again, and it poured, staying cold the whole time - then everything cleared out @ 7.....including the temperature. This morning was one of those where you look out the window, see hard frost on everything - remember your plants, and quietly say " oh s__" to yourself, like it's a secret you have to keep to yourself.....So - I have gone around the whole yard, and so far, no damage to anything, and I've got S. flava(s) in full bloom now with 1' pitchers, along with countless other species and hybrids and everything is fine...but they are forecasting another cold one tonight - I'm leaving them out since we can't cover anything without doing more damage than the frost itself would!
