I have ID several Ladies Tresses Orchids in my yard. Because of being mowed I am sure they want be able to last much longer. Will these Orchids stand transplant. If so, how and when can I do this.

Hello, Some books it says that wild orchids always die if transplanted, in my experience this isn't true. I beleve you could dig ladies tresses as long as you dig fairly deep so you don't damage the roots. I think you could because I myself dug up four ladies tresses on vacation because they were going to turn a big field where they were growing, into a parking lot for a new shopping center. I also transplanted 11 pink ladies slipper from my garden in Asheville NC to Pittsburgh PA and I didn't lose a single plant.

Thank you so much. The ground is very dry. Should I wet the ground or wait until it rains? Is there a certain time of the year to transplant?

Hello, I would let it rain before I would try to transplant it. When I saved the ladies tresses on vacation they still had leaves and flower stalks. If you could find them when they didn't have leaves, it would cause them the least amount of stress if you dug them in winter while it was dormant. The plants I saved had no Ill effects besides dropping the few flowers left on the stalk. It's your choice rather dig it now or later.
