Could you use a heated propagator as the container?

Could you use a heated propagator as the container? What do you mean? I've never used heater. The neps are growing outdoor, and the growing temperature is completely determined by the weather. I live in San Diego, Zone 10, has the Mediterranean weather. Generally, the highest temperature in the summer daytime won't be higher than 90F, and the lowest temperature in the winter nighttime won't be lower than 40F.

Heated propagator = glass/clear plastic container (black plastic base) with (undersoil?) heating, in this case humidity control too. Usually used for sowing seed, but I figured that it might make a neat terarrium. I'm asking you first in case I was wrong.

It depends on what you intend growing in it. although i doubt you will find a propagator big enough for long term growing. Also the heat will probably be unnecessary except in extreme winter. I think you can use something as simple as a plastic see through storage container. (this is what Zhillin uses, I think) Just make sure you don't leave it in the sun.

So, I could get a bigger one and not heat it unless it's really cold?

do you ever throw an occasional bug in or are they strictly pellet fed? They definitely love the arrangements

What are the dimensions of the container? I wouldn't want to smother them!

What are the dimensions of the container? I wouldn't want to smother them! Were you asking me? I dont know the exact size of my box. But it can hold 15 square pots of 4.5inch size. Yes, ventilating the box is very important. I didn't seal the box. On the top there are two large open space allowing air flow in and flow out. On each wall of the box there are also two holes allowing air in/out. Although the gaps between pots are filled with moisture moss, the pots are put on a baking rack so that the bottom of pots have good ventilation. If you want more air ventilation, you can use the net pots (the plastic pots made of net. generally these pots are used for orchids) especially when your soil includes lots of moss.
