Is there any chance that, at least for future editions, PDFs could be generated during the editing/publishing process? This would mean that the PDFs of the CPN would be of much higher quality and the text would be searchable.

Absolutely. Our plan is to have future CPNs available as searchable PDFs. We will receive the electronic files from the publisher and do the conversion. Just getting the back issues scanned, cleaned up, and converted as bit-map image PDFs was a huge job. We seriously considered doing OCR on all of the pages, but that was too big a job for the 3 volunteers. If someone wants to volunteer to do that job, we would be thrilled. As an imperfect alternative, a PDF of all articles published in CPN from volume 1 (April 1972) to volume 32 (December 2003), searchable by authors, title, keywords, or species, is publicly available to everyone on the ICPS web site. www.carnivorousplants.org/cpn/Search.phpWe have chosen to make the last 3 years of articles available only to ICPS members as an added inducement for membership.

I can start doing OCR on the pages but my OCR will only let me proof in learn mode so some mistakes will be made. I don't have the ability to edit pdf files, but it is a start.

I have sent you an e-mail with a link to a test document. Unfortunately I hit send when I meant to hit spell check so it is incomplete. However what I was going to write next is not of importance unless my format concept is agreed upon.
ps. A few keywords to try; pinguiculas photomicrography cytochemical enzyme droseras nepenthes

Sigh, I've been trying and trying and I just can get my program to get any better then about 60% accuracy. I got so frustrated that I even purchased a new ocr program. I'm thinking that ocr's don't preform well on copies of dittos. Let me tell you "I'm SICK of reading issue one".

Sorry if I seem completely naive but I'm newer to cps and was very interested in joining the forum. Only thing I was wondering was who the authors of the articles typically are. I've been trying to find information and research done (specifically) by Ivan Snyder and Greg Bourke, but haven't had much luck besides a few articles. I'm mainly interested in Drosera hybrid information, but I'm very interested in finding info about other cps as well. I saw that Greg may have written a few articles for the Australasian Carnivorous Plant Society, but was wondering if he published any through here. Thanks for your help, and sorry for posting this question here. ;D I wasn't able to find a better place on the forum
