Glad to see that the offending advert that was potentially hacking passwords and bank details at the weekend has been removed. At least it was according to my antivirus program, it denied me entry.
I'm surprised there wasn't an announcement.
Did my program get it wrong?

Fredg, I have no idea what you are referring to. I thoroughly checked the Security Log and cannot find anything out of the ordinary.

Oh. I see. You are referring to the ads that appear when you are not logged in as a forum member. ICPS pays Proboards a fee so that our forum is ad-free for members that log in. Non-member Guests get the ads; Members do not.
The only remedy (other than always signing on to the ICPS forum as a Member) that I can think of is to complain to Google and to Proboards if the ads are offensive.

Bob,
The ad was not offensive it was designed to hack passwords and bank details from peoples computers.
To sign in to this site I enter as a guest, I do not store passwords on the computer.
I didn't think I should sign in to here using my password when there was a program on the site which is designed to steal them.
Perhaps it would be best if people who did sign in on Sunday, if this has not been done already, run a full scan of their computers, as a preventative measure.
Better safe than sorry.

If you are a member when you log in if you set the "Stay logged in forever" you never see ads until you either log out, clear your cookies or use another computer.

I'm not arguing, but how do you know that's what the ad/program was trying to do? I assume you work in tech or have a great knowledge of such to back up what you say?

it was designed to hack passwords and bank details from peoples computers. That's what Spybot says about Doubleclick cookies. They are harmless. If you have decent security it won't hurt to store passwords. Cookies are how your computer knows what password belongs to what site and they also help with surfing the web by storing your preferences. I never clear Doubleclick cookies and therefor never have to type my password.

It's called a Security Suite, it tells you what the threat is. NB. It wasn't SpyBot S&D Taz, I have known people who have hacked passwords by stealing cookies, they did it very easily and quite enjoyed using anothers identity for an evening. All it needs is a click on a hack link.

The only ways I know of to steal a cookie they would have to get into your computer or grab the cookie as it get dumped from your computer. A remote access gets denied and my firewall comes up so they can't get into my computer. That's why I don't delete cookies from my frequented sites unless I have to do a major cleaning and then the files get shredded. I've never been hacked(knock on wood) and don't expect to. I'm pasted all over the internet and have had a trojan or two but Kaspersky Internet Security wiped them out before I could do anything. There are many ways to set up a security suite that can leave you vulnerable. I suggest following any directions from the program site and get involved in the forums at your programs site, if they have any.
