Here goes. hi name is Richard from nashville Tennessee. I have within the past year been attempting to keep alive nepenthes in a 55 galllon aquariam. I have two green ones as well as a red ampularia. Here is the problem i have and that is temperature is to low for the ampularia. I am fighting temperature that appears to be to low. It is sitting at the present time 76 degrees. The glass on the top of the tank is thin probably 1/8th inch thick but maybe should go to 1/2 inch. I am using 1 4 foot shop light from lowes with one grow plant light and one cool light. could i go to two grow lights without hurting the plants as far as burning the leaves? I went out and purchased a glass submersable heater and it is warming the water in the bottom of the tank. I got plastic grate type material from lowes and cut it for the insice of the tank. I used 4 rocks i got from there on the 4 corners and raised it up and put the plants o top of it. I got a little 25 dollar fan that is in the corner of the glass to remove the humidity.unfortunately this seems to have lowered the temperature from 76 degrees to 74 degrees.I have heard of people using a pump to circulate the water but dont have one of those .the red ampularia is growing very slowly.2 leaves and just the the hint of a small trap. the others have already grown and opened around 3 pitchers in about 2 months. any suggestions from reading my quick typed post from anyone.?

Richard, when you say it is 76 degrees, is that the night low or the day high. You really don't want too many nights to go below 60-65 degrees. the occasional drop into the 50's at night is tolerated, but lowlanders like ampullaria prefer mild nights and warm days. Also, amps can be a little slow to adapt to new conditions. How long have you had the red amp? So you're a steel player in Nashville--- some friends here in south Florida are trying to put together a western swing band but are having a heck of a time finding a steel player down here. The few around already have steady gigs.
