I'd be interested in hearing what people have to say and what they have experienced with in regards to indoor growing and mold control.
This winter has been a real pain for me to try and keep fungal outbreaks in check. Two strains keep coming back time and time again. One is the white fuzzy mold that everyone knows of, a rather unsightly saprophyte, and the other is a brownish, yellowish mold which at first sight seemed to also be a saprophyte but ended up growing on my sundews. The second mold I received from another greenhouse which kept it's plants outside but due to my winters being cold and the plants being tropical, I had to bring them in. Eventually the mold spread even after sulfur based fungicides and neem oil applications. I repotted and still see the mold spreading. The mold spread from one pot to another but oddly enough no mold what so ever has attacked a number of my other pots. The soils are all the same and all are grown under the same amount of light.
I have tried purchasing a small sterilizer UV light to kill the surface spores, applied sulfur based fungicides as well as neem oil and I am still plagued by these two fungi. There are no source of dead leaves or any decaying matter for them to feed on so I am stumped as to how they are surviving!
I have heard of other methods of control such as cinnamon but I am unsure of what this will do to the soil in the short and long run. I am wondering to if going to a bigger scale UV light to reproduce 265nm and 185 nm wavelengths to kill the spores but I am afraid that this would also affect the plant since UV light does not discriminate between plant and fungi.
Any input helps! Thanks!
