Anyone live in the NYC area? Familiar with the CP community (or lack thereof) ? Where do you shop for plants or supplies? Any recommendations for daytrips to local habitats? ;D

I live on Long Island and work in NYC, there is no community that I know of.... so I go up to Rhode Island for the New England Carnivorous Plant Society every chance I get. Especially for the annual show at the end of September!
As for supplies, the Flower District (or what's left after Bloomberg's "rezoning" for his developer cronies) is a great spot. Especially Jambali's. What's left of the district is on 28th St. btwn 7th & 6th Aves.
As for plants? The best is to mail order from the online nursery's.
Habitat? Quogue National Wildlife Refuge has a boardwalk that spans a bog with nice Purpurea's and Rotundifolia's. There are Aquatic Bladderwort's in the main pond that are easy to find.
The NYBG is a waste of time for CP's. Beautiful place otherwise!

I live on Long Island and work in NYC, there is no community that I know of.... Actually, there's quite a few local CP folks within reach of NYC (especially if you include SE PA & southern NY state). However, there's a need for a good organizer to bring them out & start an organization / club .... <hint, hint> ;D ;D ;D Any recommendations for daytrips to local habitats? ;D The last few years, elgecko has organized some fantastic trips to the Pine Barrens - check out the trip reports.
