Are you sure? I just see the classic shape of rubra ssp. gulfensis, with white areoles and a wavy lid from leucophylla.

The nearest gulfensis to Hosford is roughly 80 miles away, as far as I know, but I see what you mean about some rubra influence. I still see some purp in there too. If I had to guess the parentage, (leuco x (readii x purp.))

I've seen S. leucophylla x rubra gulfensis very similar if not identical to this near Milton, FL on a powerline right-of-way. There is so much hybridization there, also flavas involved, it was hard to locate pure species. On the other side of the Panhandle I always assumed the Hosford site leucophyllas were native. In 1999 I found leucophylla in Leon County just SW of Tallahassee. another 10 miles or so east of Hosford area. I personally have not observed rubra anywhere near this region.

Wow that's some plant indeed. I concur with sunbelle, it looks to be some sort of purp x leuco hybrid. Were all the seeds the germinated hybrids? or was this an oddity that popped up in other more "normal" looking leucos?
