Yesterday I decided to surprise the wife with some Roses. Today I was getting everything ready that is outside to move to the unheated garage. I decided to cut a few Sarracenia pitchers and place them with the Roses. My wife hates my CP's and I was wondering how long it would take her to notice what I had done............. less then 1 second. She asked me why I placed them there, but has not told me I have to remove them.....not yet anyway. I think it looks really nice.

The Sarracenia pitchers look like S. "Dana's Delight", which is also called S. “Leucophylla Red".

Bob has it correct. The pitchers are from S. "Dana's Delight".

A question for Bob,
Where does 'Dana's Delight' originate from?
I've seen some photos of Bob Hanrahan's place and there is a very beautiful red leucophylla and I thought it might be the same clone?
Dave.

There's a discrepancy about how the plant was named. I visited Kim Magnusen a few years ago and noticed a pink Sarracenia in his collection. He said that he hybridized it, and it was called "Dana's Delight." I was pleasantly surprised because I had only seen photos of it, and it was one of my favorite. He said he named it after the daughter of a friend/collaborator who lived in Australia. When he registered the plant, he had only heard the daughter's name and not seen it written, and he registered it as "Dana's Delight." Later he found out that the daughter's name was spelled "Daina," although pronounced the same as "Dana." But by then it was too late to change the registered name. I think Kim's account is plausible because it seems unlikely that the father would misspell the child's name. Here's something that verifies Kim's account (about one-fourth of the way down the page): www.cpsecrets.com/b2evolution/blogs/index.php?cat=14

I looked in Jan's CP Database and cannot find "Dana's Delight" listed. I realize the Database lags recent registrations. Exactly when and where did Kim Magnusen register this plant as a cultivar?

Since I may not accurately remember all the details of what I heard from Kim Magnusen several years ago, I emailed him to ask about the name Dana’s/Daina’s Delight. He responded that he gave the information about the cultivar (including the name “Dana’s Delight,” presumably) to the tissue culture lab that he used to commercialize the plant. He doesn’t recall if he registered the cultivar or not. He may well not have because he says he’s not much of a paper guy and is not interested in being recognized. He says the plants do most of the work, and if something noteworthy results from a cross, it’s mostly luck. So I had the story mostly correct, except for the part about registration. I notice that Kim is now labeling the plants that he sells “Daina’s Delight.” Of course, most people who have this cultivar would have plants propogated by the tissue culture lab, so they would be labeled "Dana's Delight." Anyway, that’s the reason for alternate spellings.

It is not too late. Register the plant with the correct name. Tell the TC labs to add an "i" where it is supposed to be.
Typos happen all the time.

Hey JJK,
Do you have electronic contact with Magnusen?
I'd like to see this person register Daina's Delight, since the plant really is lovely.
